New Dental Hygiene Book Reaches Dominican Republic

Dr. Kristin Hutchinson and her medical mission team from Galilee Church sent this picture from Guerra, Dominican Republic, last week. We hear the new book was a hit! Created with Dr. Hutchinson’s input as well as several consultants, and illustrated with cultural sensitivity to the area, the book truly reached the children; they readily received the education.

The team read the book to the children prior to the day of medical treatments, actively teaching them lessons from each page before handing the books out for coloring. We are excited to have included a “find the missing picture” fun page to further reinforce the concepts.

This book is now available for purchase with the text in either a humanitarian or Christian version, in English or Spanish.

It’s Hot Out There

It’s hot out there…so hot. I have AC relief. So many don’t.

I’m thinking about this while I drive 300 diabetes educational coloring books from the printer to the Operation Blessing Warehouse. I’m in my car with the AC blowing. As soon as I open the door, that heat made me sweat immediately.

I actually started whining about it internally for a few inexcusable seconds.

The books in my trunk were bound for Haiti. Will the kids who read them be out in this heat with no relief? Are they accustomed to it? Do they have enough water? I don’t know.

I hope the ones who receive our books get a temporary place in the shade to read, to color, to learn.

Gospel Story Parable for Africa Available

Thanks to Kim Kargbo and Women of Hope International, a new book is available to help share the gospel in areas of Africa. Kim shared the text of a parable about the sacrifice of a village chief for a project we created for her a few years ago. She’s used this story in West Africa to present the gospel.

Now it’s available in a book form in two sizes. It can be viewed in full if you just send me an email request at jean@jamsbooks.com. Let us know what you think, especially if you have experience in Africa.

Norfolk Academy Students Take Books to Haiti

100 hygiene coloring books in Kreyol & sharp coloring pencils are going with Helen Price Massey Hall
Director, International Programs and Global Health Fellows Program at Norfolk Academy. Her group of students will work with people on the shores of Lake Azeui, Haiti.

Hope the students have a great time watching those pencils color and seeing the children’s faces light up with the joy of learning!

Note from YWCA Haiti

Jean – we finally were able to get the coloring books today.  I couldn’t be any happier!  They look just Awesome!  Most importantly I think we have such a huge responsibility to take care of the environment and Haiti is definitely in disarray and needs lots of environment loving….I think these coloring books are so important and a Great contribution to making our world a better place!  Out of all the projects we have been doing this one is definitely one of the most gratifying.
My hope is that other organizations will want to start using them as well.
We should be giving them out in two weeks when we show a video on the environment beforehand.  I will be sending an email with photos to share with you and the Women of Galilee, who also really made this possible.
Thank you again and I send you love and blessings!
