Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most common questions we receive about our work. If you want to know more about our process and services, please check below to see if your question is answered. If the answer you are looking for is not below, please contact us and we will get you the information you need.

How do people receive the educational materials?

Children and adults receive these books by way of individuals, missionaries, medical professionals, clinics, medical mission teams and international relief organizations.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes, when ordering via website the minimum order is 100 books. If you are interested in a smaller order please contact JAMSBooks directly.

How long does it take to customize a book?

Typically 1-2 months from having the majority of the research, photos and client input.

Do I get to see my book before it prints?

Of course! You will proof the conceptual drawings, light and pencil sketches the artist prepares to give you an idea of what each page will look like. This includes preliminary sketches of your characters. Once we are on the same page, you get 2 more proofing rounds and are asked to sign off/approval the final draft before printing.

What if I want to change something after my project prints?

No worries. We will keep your file so that the artist may readily make any changes to text or illustration. Clients often find that after their project has been field tested, it might require a few minor tweaks. We bill by the hour for the artist’s time in making those changes.

Can I hire you to make the book then we print it?

No.  In order to ensure the quality of our materials we publish our own materials.  This also relieves our clients of the burden of quality, shipping and timeliness.

Are the books copyrighted?

Yes, the books are copyrighted by JAMSBooks.

How much do the books weigh?

(250) 8 1/2 x 11 books weigh 37 lbs.

How much do the books cost?

Typically $1 per book. This will vary given customization requests such as adding full color.

Who is the author?

It’s a co-authorship relationship.

If you like to write, you can be given credit for authorship. We reserve rights to edit. If you’d rather not be the author that is fine too.  Some clients dictate general text or “what is going on with each page” in a meeting so that our staff can later compose the text for you to proof. We offer editing services as part of our work with you.

Can we use our own illustrator?

No, we work with our team illustrators, however you can choose from among their styles.

Are you a faith-based business?

We work with both humanitarian and ecumenical organizations as well as individuals. Many of our books are purely humanitarian or medical and not ecumenical. We also create and carry ecumenical materials. Some of our materials are printed both ways; though the illustrations will be the same, the text will vary to suit the client’s goals.

How much does it cost to get a new book designed?

It’s best to contact JAMSBooks directly for this since no book is created the same.

Can we photocopy the books you sell online?

Thanks for asking. Technically, no. JAMSBooks works very hard to keep this service dynamic and available for people who truly need it.

We keep our prices shaved very close to cost with enough profit to keep our doors open. If you photocopy our books, you are preventing us this revenue. If you are in a dire situation, please contact us directly as sometimes we can make alternative arrangements to benefit us both – and most importantly, to educate those who most need it.

Also, our clients set aside budget to purchase our books, or plan fundraising programs. It’s not fair to them to print your own books when they are working hard to afford them via donations.

Since we have graphic designers on staff, we care happy to help you fundraise by providing you poster design, flyer designs or files to use for online campaigns.

In which languages do you print your books?

In any language you request is the bottom line. Just send us the translation if we don’t already have it and we will layout the text. Primarily, we offer our books in English, Spanish, Kreyol, Tagalog, Chichewa, French and Swahili.
