Pediatric Hospital in Togo Gets Coloring Books

A post-resident physician with Samaritan’s Purse, and pediatrician, just sent this pic from Hôpital Baptiste Biblique in Togo, West Africa. She chose to give the children a customized version of the hygiene coloring books.

Look how carefully he colored the page…

The physician saw the need for educational yet fun materials to keep the children busy in a productive way. She chose to give the children a customized version of the hygiene coloring books.

She asked us to change the text to both French and Ewe, so books were available to the children in each language, in addition to English. Then, she added the salvation message to the back page. This way, any adult who may be reading to the child can share the gospel message.

New Dental Hygiene Book Reaches Dominican Republic

Dr. Kristin Hutchinson and her medical mission team from Galilee Church sent this picture from Guerra, Dominican Republic, last week. We hear the new book was a hit! Created with Dr. Hutchinson’s input as well as several consultants, and illustrated with cultural sensitivity to the area, the book truly reached the children; they readily received the education.

The team read the book to the children prior to the day of medical treatments, actively teaching them lessons from each page before handing the books out for coloring. We are excited to have included a “find the missing picture” fun page to further reinforce the concepts.

This book is now available for purchase with the text in either a humanitarian or Christian version, in English or Spanish.

Praise From St. Damien’s

We are pleased to share this email from:

Jenny Edouard Pierre-Lys, MD MPH, HIV & Community Health Coordinator,
St. Damien’s Pediatric Hospital, Haiti
Hospital Saint-Damien-Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs

JAMSBooks have been very useful in our HIV department at Saint Damien’s Hospital.

Not only has it increase patients patience while in the waiting area, it has also being a huge help in creating or reinforcing bound between parents and children and educate them about several subjects like general and personal hygiene, using the toilet, eating good nutritious food and taking care of yourself,.

As they learned about the importance of planting trees especially in Haiti where there is a deforestation problem.

How to dispose of waste to prevent pollution of air or water that can make the fish and plants sick.

The importance of insects in the environment

Brief essentially educational topics. Kids love coloring the drawings after reading. Some form a small group to have fun, coloring and interpret the drawings while waiting to be seen by the doctor.

This is a remarkable initiative.
